More About Us . . .

Meg and Chad prepare to tie the knot on October 3, 2009. This blog chronicles their journey to the altar.

Planning Update . . .

We are more than half-way through the planning of the wedding now. The ceremony and reception will be held at a small country church outside of Bloomington. More details to follow.

Our Officiant

I thought I should tell you all about the person we chose to be our officiant.

This is David.

If you can’t tell, he’s a lot of fun.

I met David through a drama group at Ball State. I remember the first meeting, David proudly proclaimed the Cubs had won something or other, and oh, he was engaged. I forgot all about it until the next meeting, when his fiancee stopped by to bring him something he’d forgotten at home, and she was my cousin Holly! Soon after that, I was coming by their house every Wednesday night to watch the latest episode of LOST, and really they were a big reason I moved to Bloomington after college.

Chad met Dave at work. I think David actually didn’t like Chad very much to begin with because he was intimidated by him–Chad can look rather imposing sometimes.  One day Chad went up to David (who probably though he was about to get a beat down) and started talking about DND (yes, Dungeons & Dragons, folks) and they became best friends moments thereafter.

This connection eventually lead to Chad and I meeting, which I wrote about in my first post (We Play Games).

When Chad and I got engaged in August, we started thinking about who we wanted for an officiant. Both David and Holly’s names came up in our discussion, and so later we causually brought it up to them. We didn’t realize David would be so excited about the prospect, and we heard–maybe the next day–that he had gone online and gotten ordained through the Universal Life Church (and then danced around his house).

We later officially asked David to perform the ceremony, and we are sure he’ll do a great job. I hope that Holly will also be able to participate in some capacity (whatever she feels most comfortable with); and since she will hopefully be bringing her new (4 months by the wedding) baby, that may mean she and little Bilbo will be smiling at us from the pews.

These two mean a lot to us. I’m so glad they are going to be a part of our wedding! All of our other guests should make a special effort to get to know them, either during the reception or at the after party.

Thanks for everything, friends!

I would like to point out that I was NOT afraid of Chad, I just thought he was a jerk. Plus, I thought he was hitting on a woman that I thought was married and I thought that was wrong. Turns out he is a great guy and the woman I thought was married was in fact single. So, no harm done. All the stuff about D&D is true, though.

Bilbo would probably be very happy to staff the Guest Book.

Oh, great idea, Holly! The baby will draw them in like bait, and once they are in front of you, make them sign the book! It’s the perfect plan. Muahahaha!

Will the baby really be named Bilbo??????? Please please please

  5. Holly Thrasher Says:

No, the baby will not really be named Bilbo. There is, in fact, a limit to our seemingly endless sense of humor :)

    Sorry to disappoint…
